However now after joining, I’m realizing that Im unable to keep up with the payments Im making to them. It’s like after my other bills and this payment are taken out every month, I hardly have any money left and I think I’ve put myself in a bind. If I leave the program now will this mess up my credit, will it make it harder for me to join a debt management program in the future, will my creditors be resistant to work things out with me in the future because of this? Alright, to make a long boring and very aggrivating story for me short, I had a really rough start when I first went to college. I wound up in financial troubles and wasn’t able to attend my classes and wound up kicked out of the university. But now, somehow for reasons unknown, I owe the university I was attending $3000. I paid in advance for every semester I attended. But, now I am trying to go back to a junior college to get my grades up. (but I can’t get a transcript w/o paying the debt). What I would like to know is does anyone know a way to pay this debt off? I don’ t have really any skills so if I got a job, I’d be paying for nothing but daycare and wouldn’t be getting anywhere. We don’t have good credit so I can’t take out a personal loan. I plan on talking to the financial aid office and the university to ask why I owe this debt. I acquired credit card debt in the years between 2001 and 2006 and have been making a point of paying my credit card bill on time since then, and making more than the minimum payment (far more when possible) in an attempt to get out of that debt at some point before my age reaches triple digits. My credit card company seems to arbitrarily apply mysterious charges after the fact, and the end result is that I’ve literally made $200 *LESS* of a dent into my debt than I thought I did, and for that matter than it appeared I did on the bank’s website a couple of days after I made the payment. It’s exceedingly frustrating and I’m at my wit’s end with these people. Can anyone tell me whether they recommend declaring bankruptcy or not (and why), or other options. (Bearing in mind that I have no, and I mean *NO* interest in acquiring other credit cards.) Thanks in advance…
Lowiezowie, thanks for the advice. These are things I need to look into because it’s more than a bit exaperating dealing with this as you know. It seems like they can and do fabricate reasons to charge extra fees without any real transparency or accountability.
