getting out of debt
Eddie H asked:

Is debt settlement an acceptable stratergy, eventhough doing so will ruin my credit? I have more debt than I will ever live to pay off, making minimum payments, although I am current with all of my accounts (credit cards)? I have a 65% debt to income ratio, with a cash flow problem which will eventually destroy me financially.

I’ve been dealing with a debt collection agency trying to make me pay for a phone line I never had. I’ve gone through all kinds of calls, and for some reason, Sprint does have my personal info, and says I did create a home phone account. I have never owned a home phone in my life though. I had them send me copies of the bills, and there were never any calls made on this line, etc. But I’m getting away from my original question.

I am trying to find out what state the debt originated in. This is because the statute of limitation on debt determines the validity of the debt. Different states have different SOL’s so I need to find out what state Sprint debts originate in.

I’ve looked all over the internet, but cannot find any answers. HELP!

Thanks all!
I live in Florida, and did at the time the “debt” originated. I believe the creditor can pick whichever state has the longer SOL. Luckily Florida is 4 years, and that passed a few days ago. kansas is only 3 years, so that’d be great.

I am so tired of applying for loans and getting turned down even though I have the ability to pay. My credit is horrible, I file bankruptcy 2 years ago, which to me means I obviously now have the money to pay on the loans that nobody wants to give me. Should I have just let my house go and lived in a cardboard box instead of trying to save evrything? I think I would have been better off. I almost need to file again but then what’s the point if it doesn’t help you or accomplish anything?

It was due to be taken off in March of this year, but it is still showing up and I am still being asked to pay by the collection agency in charge of this debt.
You guys are all idiots. In PA, it’s 7 years and the debt is taken off your credit report. It’s for a fairly large debt that my deceased ex fiancee ran up in my name. I never had enough money to pay it off. So, thank you, half pint, for judging and assuming.

I am about $50K in debt and the bills seem to never go away! I don’t have many bills but the bills I do have are big. The interest rates are high. It seems like I can’t get anything lower than 33% interest. Any advise/tips would be great! I am tired of getting paid and not being able to enjoy any of it!

This man has his own show, I used to listen to him in Michigan. He has a guest spot on Lex and Terry. He teaches people how to get out of debt, how to save money, how to invest money, etc… Does anybody know his name? I can’t remember it and I want to buy his book. If anyone could help me that would be great! Thanks!
